Finally got to do some shooting with my new 3.5" 460. Using the fiber optic front sight, I cant get the thing sighted in anywhere even close.

With the rear sight adjusted all the way down, I'm still shooting 8" high at 15 yards and about 15" high at 25 yards using. Pretty consistent no matter what ammo I use. I tried everything from Factory 200gr Hornady's to hot 325gr cast handloads.

I didnt try the taller black front sight that came with it cuz I didnt have it with me at the range. I dont want to use that one anyway - I want to be able to use the fiber optic.

Thoughts?

I may be wrong. But shouldn't you be bringing the rear sight up to bring the front of the gun down to get you in bulleye. I know I always go the wrong way the first time when sighting my guns. I put to much thought in to it and cornfuse my self. Lol

Morning nebmike

If the black front sight is higher then you might have an incorrect (lower)fiber optic sight).

Doesn't matter what the cause as you are going to ,either, need a higher front sight or a lower rear sight blade. (just no way around it)

This seems to be a common problem with this model.

I find it strange that the 3.5" Lew Holt model had a 5/16" front site as opposed to the 3/16 ".

I changed mine to an LPA model which works well for me.

I had the same issue sighting in my 3.5" 460. The front sight is the same one used on the longer barrel versions for much longer distances(.208). Hiviz makes a taller version (.310) that will work for shorter distances.

I ordered a set of those for my M&P R8 this morning. They look like decent quality.

Quality is very good on the 3 sets I have, one of each model they offer for s&w revolvers.

Love the adjustment detentes.

My consistence improved using them for sure.

SDM sight

Using the fiber optic front sight, I cant get the thing sighted in anywhere even close... I'm still shooting 8" high at 15 yards and about 15" high at 25 yards using... I want to be able to use the fiber optic.

I changed from the .208" to a .306" SDM front sight on mine. (though I also changed from a .115" rear blade to a .160" in mine too.)
SDM has a great gold bead as well as the fiber optic front sight in .250" & .300" which I also have.
