A little over a year ago, I picked up a few of my grail guns from a local forum member. In particular there were three 3.5" pre-27's with the boxes and ALL of the goodies (SAT, cleaning tools, paperwork...). I posted photos of one of them last summer in this post http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-hand-ejectors-1896-1961/325845-1955-class-engraved-pre-27-a.html. Here is part two of a three part installment. It is a "Special Engraved Edition" 3.5" pre-27 PINTO ("two tone blue-nickel") that shipped to Rex Firearms in Feb 1956. It was engraved by Russell J. Smith and shipped with the target hammer and "smooth rosewood target grips". I hope that you enjoy the photos:

As it would have looked when the original owner opened the box:

A closer inspection of the finer details:

On top of the box (calendar style):

And lastly, a preview of things to come - the complete trio...:)

I know that in the mid 1950's there were a bunch (or more than several) of these engraved pintos that were put together. I would love to see your photos of the same.

Thanks for letting me share and Happy New Year!:)

Just incredible. To appropriately state an overused term, phenomenal, but in this case justified. Thank you for posting the fantastic photos.

Those are the best looking revolvers I have ever seen! What a beautiful collection. Thanks for sharing them!!

Richard,
I can only say WOW. Just Wow.
Words escape me.
I like how the engraver continued the engraving to the front
sight from the top of the barrel on that one Pinto shown.
