Today I looked at a 3" model 64-3 .It's from an estate . No box but the gun is in really good shape . Tight lock up ,original grips . It has some light scuff marks but nothing a grey pad and some mag polish can't handle .
Price is $350.00 plus 6% tax .
What's the hive think ?

Aarrgghh!!! Another one of these types of threads and I'll explode! I never, ever come across a deal like that. If you didn't buy it your membership here should be revoked!!!!

Ok, just kidding, yes I'll add my voice that you should you buy that without a moment's hesitation. I'd be happy to find a -3 at $450!

Grab it quick. A K frame in my favorite barrel length? I'd be on that, like a politician on a tax hike!

Thanks for the replies . I'll stop tomorrow and give it a real good looking over .Was pressed for time today .
Maybe I'll try for $350.00 out the door . Doesn't hurt to ask .

A couple years ago $350 would've been average for that particular revolver. Market has since exploded for 3" K-frames. If that 64 is in quality mechanical shape, buy immediately; even if you end up not keeping it, you'll make a profit.

Unless, of course, you believe in passing along savings to forum members.

;)

I picked up an agency trade in 3" Model 64 for $400 earlier this year with some minor dings and scuffs, and I thought a I got a good deal. I'd pick up another for $350 in a heartbeat!

Run back and buy it.

I gave right at $300.00 for mine five years ago, no box/papers/original stocks; with Pachmayrs and a PWL holster.

Better be waiting at the door! (what is the address anyway???) I have a 64-3 that I traded for a Ruger P89. Nothing special about it. A 4" gun. It currently has C.T. laser grips on it. I am pretty good at putting the dot on items without aiming. Good Luck! Bob

Here's a photo of my 3.0 inch barreled Model 64-3. I purchased it a couple of years ago - no box, no docs, no factory grips for around $320.00 plus tax. I bought it after failing for years to find my true grail guns - a Model 13 with a 3.0 inch barrel, and/or a Model 65 with a 3.0 inch long barrel. Of course, within a year after buying the Model 64, I acquired both a Model 13-3 and then a Model 65-3. Gotta love those 3.0 inch barreled K-frames.

Regards,

Dave

Today at my local gun shop it would be priced at $500 - $550.

They have not had a keeper S&W on the shelf in a while.

After giving it a real good looking over today I passed on it . Every screw on it was buggered up. Not bad enough that they couldn't be polished out but proof enough that there might be some Bubba work on the inside .
The strain screw was backed way out. I put it all the way back in .
But the real deal breaker was the front strap of the grip frame . It looked like someone took a Dremel and sanded off the groves to make it smooth .
Someone refresh my memory . Shouldn't the front of the grip frame have groves in it ? My 686 no dash has them .
Other than the Bubba work I felt that the gun was carried but rarely fired .

Although there might be an exception here or there, as a rule I don't think the 64 grips ever had grooves.

"Bubba" has worked on guns throughout the South for my entire lifetime and then some. He seldom carries the proper size screwdriver, and often makes do with a knife blade. Go back and test that revolver action thoroughly before you turn your nose up at it over $15.00 worth of screws. Seriously.

Concur. Excellent advice, ColbyBruce.
