Passed on a 64-3 with 3" barrel and real Tyler T-grip

Some states allow "take it now" if the buyer has a CCW. FL comes to mind. So perhaps "instant gratification" was at play. I tend to buy C&R because I can take it straight away, not so much on the modern stuff.

Thank you for the perspective. Im learning that 'it depends' so much on where one resides. in CA for me back in the day it was residence and 10-day waiting with FFL involvement as well. No ccw-related get-it-faster options
In TN, if face to face, it's nice to see a DL or a CCW card for a CYA. From a bricks and mortar store; a DL suffices for the background check…and still just a 10 minute background check.

One nation, so many nuances

38 Specialist, if you've never experienced shooting a 3" S&W revolver, I highly recommend you buy that 64 and give it a try...I promise you won't regret it. :)
For the life of me I cannot figure out why Smith has not re-introduced the 3 inch K frames in .38 Special or .357, some with adjustable sights.
They could sell a ton of them.

Looks great, few things slick up as well as a K frame. I see that whoever bobbed the hammer left the single action notch in place. This is always a quandary for me, as I've bobbed a couple hammers for friends. If they try to manually cock the gun, using the double action to put the hammer in reach, the SA notch will keep it from falling. But it leaves the question, how the heck do you decock a spurless hammer, on a loaded revolver? My advice, don't cock it while loaded.
The gun looks great, enjoy.

In made a visit to my LGS yesterday and found a 64-3 with 3" barrel, bobbed hammer, and original Tyler T-grip.

The price is good and it's in great shape.

I was about to buy it. But I overlooked the fact that due to recently moving, my carry permit and license show different address. Hence I couldn't take it out of the store. I took it as a sign that it just wasn't meant to be, shrugged my shoulders, and left. I've got more guns than I can shoot anyway. Whew! I saved myself some money!

This morning I went to the sheriff's office and got my permit updated.

Guess what? Now I'm thinking about that gun. I don't own any 3-inch k-frames. Let alone any with the other features. It seems like it fills a niche in my collection.

What do you all think? How highly prized is a specimen like this?
Please.... Please, feel free to pick it up for me, I'd love to have it!

You and me both. One of the hottest revolvers on the secondary market. A run of classic no lock 13's and 65's would be worth me rolling the dice on a modern production gun - but for the love of god make some blue ones! S&aw has a horrendous habit of introducing something sort of interesting, then only making it in stainless! I hate stainless and I am sure there are others that prefer classic blue as well

Interesting!!!!

I had a Model 64 4" with a bobbed hammer:

It had the worst trigger I ever owned; I couldn't stand it.

So, I had it modified and now it's a great little 2" K frame:

If I see a 3" I'll think about it, solely because I have a 3" L frame that I really do like:
