Been looking at a used 686-1 M with all the usual cs-1 giveaways--bead blasted, 3", thin black front sight, Pachymar compacs w/ serial number window...but no CS-1 marking. I have not been able to find any info on the "cs-1 over-runs" and whether they were marked cs-1 or not. Shows holster wear w/ dings from use, the grips are very well used, but it appears to have been fired very little.

Sound like a CS-1? Over-run? 686 dressed up like a cs-1?

Appreciate any info..

AFAIK all the CS-1's bore the CS stamp inside the yoke.

My guess is you are looking at a CS-3 that was an overun from a european order. Basically the same gun as a CS-1.

Some of the CS-3's were laser etched with "Security Special" on the side plate.

Whats the serial number on the one your looking at? Regards 18DAI.

The serial prefix is "AZB"--it's on hold at the LGS and that's all I recall, not having written down the full number.

I was under the impression that the "CS-3s" were marked as such, and were later production -2 or -3s?

I've been wrong before...could happen again :)

thanks again for the opinions..

Any 3-inch L-frame 686, is a cool piece. I'm thinking the 3-inch barrels were introduced in 1988, for the CS units, but I could be mistaken.
They are dang sure pricey!

non marked CS-1

You know what they say about Smith and Wesson,
" NEVER SAY NEVER" I have 2 LNIB CS-1's. The bottom and top guns are marked, the middle gun has no CS-1 marking. The 2 guns have matching product codes on the boxes.

Very nice!

I'd be interested in finding out the serial# prefix on the unmarked gun in the middle.. is it anything close to "AZB"?
