I have found that on each M&P pistol I have handled, if the 3 dot sights are lined up then the notch and blade are not lined up. If I line up the blade and notch, the front sight is then higher than the rear two.

Anyone else?

For precise work, line up the tops of the rear notch and the front blade. For faster sighting use the dots. I think at short distances the difference in shot placement between the two methods will not be large.

3 Dot Combat Sights

The 3 dot sight system is setup to acquire a fast sight picture for center mass combat shooting. The point of impact will differ when using a conventional sighting picture.

The focus should be on the front sight, not the rear sight.

Put a set of night sights on it and problem solved.

I found the 2 dot rear sights to be a distraction so I went with a 1 dot rear sight. Just put the front dot over the rear dot and pull the trigger. Works for me.

I noticed this quite some time ago as well. I measured the dot placement & size from the tops of the F&R sights and they were the same so the only logical explanation is it's a combination of parallax & perceived dot size due to the distances involved. In theory, if you line up the three dots through the centers and place the front dot for the POI it should be the same as using the tops of the sights and using the top of the front sight as the POI. This assumes that the dots are all the same distance down from the tops of the F&R sights.

On all of my M&P's (9FS, 9c, 9mm Shield) I line up the tops and place the dot on the planned POI. My M&P22 shoots with a 12 o'clock sight picture even though it's got a 3-dot setup on it.

As mentioned previously, at combat distances it probably doesn't make any real world difference if you're just going for a COM hit. If you're trying to do a precision shot then it might make a small difference.

I didn't think of measuring them. Good call. I went with these sights on my Shield.

On a FS Pro, there are no dots on the rear sight. (but there is on a Pro CORE???) I can kind of understand the logic since the iron sights on a CORE are sort of a BU sight. (I don't use them that way but that's the only reason I can think of).
