3" J frames

I was discussing with a friend, why isn't the 3" J Fr available in a hammerless style? Any thoughts?

I wouldn't be surprised if the 3'' J frame had been available in the past. However most people consider that the hammerless type is intended for pocket carry, which is not so easy with a 3''.

The S&W Model 640 and 940 were both offered in 3" variants and produced in both Standard and Performance Center runs, if you look around you will find they show up for sale periodically, they however do bring a premium resale value as they are not as common as the 2" variants.

Unfortunately the production runs of the 3" 640 and 940 were short. Wish S&W would produce it again.

The 3" barrel is just long enough that it causes issues in pocket carry.

There was also a brief early run of 3" 642s, and very rare model 40s.

They also made a few DA-only Model 60s with factory bobbed hammers and Hogue grips. I bought one in 1990 and have only seen one other like it.
