Op, is it a round butt or a square butt? If it is a factory 3" nickel 19-3, then yes, it is a very special and scarce , well truly rare, S&W. An awesome buy at $1350. If not factory, it has had a lot of work, if done well, it could still be worth a bit of money, maybe not the $1350 to some. Really what's a couple of hundred.

I will say that I am very happy to own a 3" M66-3, it is one of my favorite S&W's.

It's hard to confirm RB or SB in Mediumbore's photos a couple of posts up, but looks to be a SB to me.

Imo, just more evidence of a converted 4+".

But the Smith & Wesson and cartridge stamping appear to be in the right places.

Here's a link to a 3" 19-2 for sale on Guns International.

It shows the integral ramp, RB frame.

Photos I could get.

I'm no expert, but everything on that one looks righteous to me. Exposed front sight pins were common on the earlier Nickel Combat Magnums. Smooth "presentation" magnas often shipped on special order guns. And more than one special order gun left the factory with a yellow front sight insert. I personally would have never left the GS without that gun. PM me and let me know where it is for sale and I will relieve you of any consternation you may feel about purchasing it... because it will no longer be available for sale... :D:)

[Edited for another observation/comment - the frame is a round butt frame, as the top strap does not have the step down found on the longer Combat Magnums. With that said, most of the 19-2 3" guns that I am aware of came on a RB frame with the step down on the top strap - like Bill's outstanding 19-2 shown above.]

For the price posted, I would buy the 19-3, original or not. The "proud" pins were common on nickel plated target revolvers until the late 1960s. The reason is the blue sight base was pinned to the barrel with two pins that were not polished flush to the rib (as was done on revolvers finished in blue).

I'm always impressed with both the knowledge here and the cooperative sharing of that knowledge!

RKmesa, there is a line behind Mediumbore! But someone has to buy that 19 and have it lettered!

My comment was tongue in cheek, meant to motivate the op back to the shop and purchase that gun ASAP.:) I have a few three inch Combat Magnums, but only one of which is a "Model 19" - this one, engraved by Alvin White:

There is no model number stamped in the frame and as noted in the letter Roy believes it was a very early round butt gun.

The 3" CM's really are great guns with proportions that are "just right"

I understood you were tongue in cheek, I was like wise, trying to note the high % of members posting "I'd buy that" in this thread.

Your 3" M19 in the photo is gorgeous, like all of the revolvers in all of the photos you post.

Did the lack of a serial number cause a transfer issue?

I did not communicate that very well. It does have a SN (K500000) stamped on the grip frame, just no model number stamped in the yoke area of the frame - kind of like a pre model numbered gun.

I sure do hope that the OP purchased that nickel 3" er. I am looking forward to learning more about it. :)

I have a question and an observation. My question is when did S&W eliminate the step down on the top strap where the barrel screws in? It was on the 2 1/2" models, this 19-3 does not appear to step down, my 3" 19-2 has it.

I can't tell from the photos about the finish (original or re-nickeled). But I think at that price I would take a chance on it.

The die is cast gentlemen (and ladies). My bride has been telephonically dispatched to purchase to purchase same provided it has not been scooped up. My work schedule sucks and it would be Friday before I can get back. Now I need to figure out how to get a factory letter... Pics to follow guys.

WELL DONE!!! (hopefully) Cannot wait to see more on this one. Fingers crossed for you!
