What dash-model(s) was the 3" Model 60 without the lock?

I had a 3 inch pre lock. It was the first M60 Magnum and was a dash 10.
Good gun, but it was MIM. I actually prefer MIM parts, but others don't.

A limited run in 1972 with pinned barrels (-1). A second small run in 1985, non-pinned and stamped 60 only. The others are adjustable sighted and full lug, like the 60-4 and -10 mentioned above. The -14 and higher have the IL.

Yep. I had a -14 with the lock, but sold it as soon as I found my dash 10. I also have a dash 4 that's had a non-fluted cylinder fitted to it.

I have a dash 3, DAO with bobbed hammer. BEC serial number from around Aug. 1989.

Would anyone like to sell their 60-10? :~) Seems to be one of the most impossible to find Smith's for sale. I've been looking and asking for months.

I found my -10 on GB in August of this year for $500 shipped. I thought the -9's and -10's (the only pre-lock .357 60's) were reasonably common listings, but asking prices were pretty much always $600-$650+.
There was one in TX for $525 that I had my eye on, but it sold offline after 4+ months of being listed on GB w/ no takers.

Kestrel, I've bought several Smiths through this forum and always had the best of luck with guns exactly as described. I just can't bring myself to deal on Gunbroker. Around here, when someone says NIB or 99% they really mean it.

I know it's heresy to suggest an IL-equipped S&W in a non-IL thread, but this thing is just neat!
It's the current 3" 60 model SKU #178013 - the '60 Pro' (60-15). Mine was $640 new OTD locally 1/11. It's loaded with extras - inc that grip - and is literally a few $ over the basic new 3" 60's price. Neat revolver.

I bought two -4s years ago,one for my wife and one for me to use as a yard gun.The wife long since retired from banking and no longer carries a gun so I traded hers for a -15 last year. The -15 ,of course has a IL but it has caused no trouble so far. Truth is, I'd rather have a -9 or-10 without the lock but I have not come across one for reasonable money.I do have a "Plug" to put in if needs be. Nick
I also have the plug ready to install. I have the Miculek video on doing a Smith action and I have done several, my old 686, my Mod 37 etc. They all came out really well.
I think the MIM guns end up with a VERY smooth double action throw when you tune them a bit. I have a 60-10 on order but Smith seems to be very slow delivering them.
Buds just got one in but I'm waiting for my local gunsmiths order to be filled. Gotta buy local.

If I could've buffed off that ugly arrow I would have gotten me a Model 60 Pro, but the finish on it is kinda matte so buffing it off probably wouldn't work too well.

It doesn't show the dash number on the site that I can see, but I think they are up to dash 18 by now. Same gun, except it has the IL and minor changes. The dash 10's were in the late 1990's.

I know the standard model as the 60-10 and the Pro model as the 60-15.

I'm new to this forum and came across this thread via google search.
I'm looking for a S&W Mod 60 without the internal lock and was wondering if someone here is willing to sell one or could point me into the right direction. I'm working for a bank and don't want to take any chances.
I checked sites like gunbroker but they all only have the new model with the internal lock and also I'm not too fond of the new barrel shape.

Welcome, Applemoose. They ARE kinda hard to come by, but CAN be found. My suggestion is to keep your eye on Gunbroker.com and look for a model 60-4 (or 60-10) and when one becomes available, be willing to pay pretty much whatever it takes to get it. I've purchased two 60-4's over the past couple of years through Gunbroker. Paid $595 for one of them and $695 for the other.
