3 stoppages

I had my first jams on Saturday, 3 in total the first was a bad round i think! When i checked it after it had a good strike on the primer it just didn't go bang. As for the other 2 i have no idea why the gun stopped, i just racked the action and carried on. Now i realise 3 jams in at least 1500 rounds are good odds, it's just that when you are in the middle of a competition it's 3 problems too many.

Di you try them a second time? In the last several thousand rounds I have had exactly 2 that were actual duds.

What ammo are you talking about?

FWIW, a mis-fire isn't really a jam.

I was shooting SK Magazine it's made by Lapua, it was a new tin i opened for the match. I just hope that there are'nt any more surprises in the tin waiting for me! Cheers

I read that SK Magazine ammo is not recommended for auto loaders.

I'm not familiar with the ammo, but like Dan says it is specifically noted in the below link not suitable for autoloaders. That said, 3 of 1500 (one of which was diagnosed as a bad primer so we're talking about only two...) ain't bad for unsuitable.

You could try CCI Blazers also, have had zero issues with it, and it is a lot cheaper than the Mini Mag stuff.

I use Federal Champion 90 percent of the time, but have had good results with CCI Tactical and Brazer bulk.

You need to get a 100 rounds of everything in your area and see what works best in YOUR rifle. Be sure to run a BoreSnake or a few patches through the bore when you change brands and put a dozen rounds downrange before you start shooting for accuracy.

Bummer. That said, two misfires in 1,500 rounds isn't that much of a big deal, except as you say, in the middle of a match.

CCI Mini Mags most the time Federals once in a while but mostly CCI/MM and not even a hickup...

federal bulk and cci blazer are the 2 most popular bulk brands. cci mini-mag and cci tactical are higher end. mini-mags seem to be the best overall brand among different guns ive seen but definitely test whats best for YOUR gun.

No we are clinging on to a few still ,
we no longer have standard length handguns or semi auto rifles in full bore calibers. we are allowed .22 semi autos rifles, and our hand guns have to be 24" long.They were all banned sometime ago, it hasn't stopped gun crime so it was all pointless anyway.

While reseting the 25 yard zero to the #1 setting on my NcStar scope BDC turret I had three FTFs with Federal bulk today in about 300 rounds.....Bore and chamber were cleaned with one pass with the bore snake with Hoppes #9 prior to fireing.....There was a pin strike on each round....Bad primer???

Did they fire the second time , or did you bother to try?

A bad spot in the primer is always a possibility. I've only had two or three in the last 5k that didn't fire the second time.

I tossed them since I didn't have my revolver handy.........The ammo made these days is subject to questionable reliability from brand name and lot to lot.......You just toss the duds and get down the road.....

However firearms that are picky about what ammo you use is another matter.

Bad primer? Most likely.

they usually have extended barrels and extended stocks to reach the 24" overall length.

It's down to total length, most handguns in the UK have a long barrel and then a metal rod welded to the pistol grip. have a look at this clip you can just see the rod while the guy is shooting.

I'm confused, though. In the US, we aren't allowed to have rifles with shortened stocks, or rifles with shortened barrels, but it seems to me that a long-barreled revolver is pretty much the same as a short stock rifle.

Anyhow, yeah, I agree that would be a bit difficult to conceal, which is the whole idea, after all.

Thanks to all the advice i have received from everybody on the forum i changed my ammo to CCI Mini Mags.
And i am pleased to say that after changing to the Mini Mags i had no further issues with my 15/22.
I competed in a 2 gun match at the weekend Shotgun & Mini rifle, the .22 round count was 180 and i am pleased to say that the gun worked without a hitch.
