300 aac blackout

I just started shooting this round out of my Ruger mini 14 almost all my hunting is 100 yards or less
The problem I'm finding is load data using hollow tip bullets in the 150-180 gr range and still be supersonic rather then subsonic I have a large supply of bullets for my 30 cal rifles
Has anyone worked up hunting load data for this 300 aac...in my state we need hollow point bullets all I can find at gun shops are Full Metal Jacket ammo since I can reload my empty cases so any thing will be helpfull
I think this is a hidden gem type round that has much more to offer over a 223/5.56 or the AK 7.62x39 round with a growing following of hunters and shooters

As far as I am concerned, the 300Blk is the AR-15 world's answer to the 30 Carbine and like that cartridge is happiest loaded to higher velocities with lighter bullets.

Where have you been looking for load data?

The Hodgdon website (Hodgdon Reloading | Home) is one source where you will find several supersonic loads for bullets in the 150gr to 180gr weight range. Most of them use the powders that would be familiar to 30 Carbine loaders like IMR-4227 and H-110, but Hodgdon also makes CFE BLK which is specifically adapted to the 300Blk.

Remember that proper reloading procedures are to begin with the Starting load and then work up in increments of 0.3 or 0.4 grain (depending on the difference between starting and maximum) until you get an accurate load that will cycle your gun, you encounter pressure signs or you reach the maximum load.

That's interesting. I've got family all over Georgia, but I've never hunted there. All the states I'm familiar with allow either soft point or hollow point ammunition for game, so that's a new one on me.

If you are reloading, however, then just about any internet seller dealing in reloading components is going to have .308 bullets in the 150gr to 180gr range in a variety of configurations.

I load several type and weight bullets in 300 blackout but don't hunt with them. If you're looking for a specialty bullet you might try looking at the Lehigh Defense Controlled Chaos bullets. From 110 grains up.

That's interesting. I've got family all over Georgia, but I've never hunted there. All the states I'm familiar with allow either soft point or hollow point ammunition for game, so that's a new one on me.

If you are reloading, however, then just about any internet seller dealing in reloading components is going to have .308 bullets in the 150gr to 180gr range in a variety of configurations.

Georgia doesn't want game shot with Full Metal Jacket instead they prefer hollow point or soft tip
And I prefer hollow point for Humane killing
I have a large supply of A-Max 155 gr plactic tip bullets but looking at the design I fear it would compress the load its a bob tail bullet compared to a 110 gr hornady I like using Hodgdon H110 powder but haven't tryed loading any yet...maybe I'm over thinking the compressed load thing

Can I use a 30-30 150 gr flatnose bullet for target shooting because I've got over 2000 of those bullets
I inherited a friends supply of bullets and some powders after he die he always bought in bulk so thats why I'm asking about certain bullets will flatnose bullets cause feeding problems

I tried hodgdon H110 with a 150 gr hollow point flat base and found out anything over stating up to mid point load my gun would jam until I loaded max load my thought on it is my die mite be cocking the bullet because at max load I'm very careful running my loads ??

I have 4 off these and love them. As mentioned, the best super loads are in the 110-125 gr range. Most expanding point bullets need 1,800 fps or faster at the target. There are a few listed on a forum specifically for the 300 BLK rifle that expand at less than 1,000 fps. There is a wealth of knowledge there too for this rifle.

Don't be scared to think outside the box for load data.

The 300 Blackout is pretty much just a commercial version of a wildcat round that has been around for years. Look into some data for the 300 Whisper.

Also, since you mentioned hunting with the 300, keep in mind that projectiles designed for rifle velocities likely aren't going to give the same results at the lower velocities of the Blackout. (I think a previous poster mentioned this as well.)

Something else, The 300 Blk is a SAMMI listed round as opposed to the Whisper which is a Wildcat round. Generally speaking, barrel manufacturers are required to stay within SAMMI specs for barrel and chamber. Not necessarily so with a Wildcat round.

There are a lot of people out there selling re-processed, formed from cutdown 5.56 brass. Some works well, others do not. Check the good brass--bad brass list.

If you just want plinking rounds or coyote rounds, there are some good polycoated bullets available at lead bullet prices without the leading issues of lead and are suppressor safe (after testing without the can to make sure the bullets don't keyhole). I'm not saying exposed lead is all that bad, I shoot it too, but prefer coated.

Direct impimgement is the way to go for subs. Gas piston, not so much.
