Anyone have any experience in shooting the .300 Winchester Short Magnum cartridge? How is it on recoil? Crazy loud? Flat shooter right? Opinions on the round?

Actually mine has surprisingly lower recoil than I expected for this round. It recoils more like 30-06 than a magnum cartridge and has the power range of the 300 win mag. A very nice round for all around hunting.

I agree with the above post. Flat shooter, less recoil than expected. Ammo is available most places; not too expensive. I really like the round.

My "new" favorite hunting round the past few years. Agree with previous comments regarding less felt recoil.

The 300 WSM is a great round. My daughter and I each have one in a Winchester M-70. Mine is a Featherweight and hers is a Laminated. I agree that the recoil is about the same as the 30-06, it was a little more than Megan enjoyed so we had a muzzle brake put on it. With the muzzle brake she enjoys it just as much as her 257 Roberts.

Megan has taken big mule deer, moose, wild hogs, a beaver (whole long story) and white tails with hers and I've done the same plus a 500 pound black bear. We use Barnes X bullets and it's a great combination.

We're going to Africa for plains game next June and the 300's are what we're taking for that.
