317 no lock

A early model 317 no lock with uncle mikes grips has come up for sale locally. I'm starting to think this is as close as I get to kit gun.

I'm looking for thoughts/perspective from someone who has one. I've read these triggers can be stiff.

Not the best photo. The seller is asking $600 and open to trades. What do y'all think?

I have a pair of the 3" 317-1's as came from factory. One has the UM rubber bananas and other has the wooden grips. I'll try to post pics. Hard trigger pulls to say the least but seem to be necessary for surefire ignition with no light strikes.
The 3" has adj. sights and would like to have a 2" to go with them.
If yours is gun only and condition (mechanics and finish) is good, I'd try to swap him if had anything interesting. Otherwise, I'd offer $500 and go from there depending on condition and how bad you want it...

I dont have mine as regular shooters but more so for their features and light weight.

I was given a 317 2" a while back. It definitely has a hard trigger pull. Traded it to a friend.

I gave $250.00 plus tax for mine years ago. Hard trigger pull? That is being kind. I have seen a few with severely worn finishes too. My gun dislikes HS ammo but shoots SV fairly well. $600.00 would be a decent price in metro Atlanta.

Trigger is rough.
I have yet to find a cartridge that shoots to point of aim at any distance. My two inch has a nasty habit of keyholes at five yards with anything that isn’t at least HV.

Tough trigger. One I had was chewing up the end of the cylinder on the forcing cone when you put the cyl in and out, check for that.

The bodyguard-style hammer on the 2" is a very poor choice, hard on the thumb.

Always wanted one. Wish they would make an all steel one with no lock but keep the bodyguard hammer.

If in good condition it is a very good price based on recent sales prices, if it checks out mechanically and you want one.

I now own a S&W 351C (.22 Magnum). I prefer this to the 317. The reason is just that you can shoot .22 LR out of it or .22 Magnum. Hate to say it but, it was given to me also (great friend). These run about $650 here.

Great gun for totin around.
I had a 3” one once. Foolishly sold it. Replaced it with a 1 7/8” 34 which I have not regretted selling even for a moment. The 2” 34 was harder to shoot than the 3” air weight was for me.
The 3” air weight shot great in SA. DA was a challenge.
What I liked about it was that the gun barely out weighed the leather holster it rode in.

I have one. The trigger is stiff, but not unmanageable. As you stated, great kit gun. Will be interested to see what you pay . . .

I vote maybe . I think a good kit gun would be a 60 or an sp101.
Yes those j frame 22’s can have stiff triggers and not much you can do about it if you want reliability.
A 317 sat for ages in my LGS. Unfortunately I compared it to the 63 and 617, it didnt get to come home with me.

I'd have to say get a 3"... it's still light, you get longer radius adjustable sights, and the hammer is usable SA which is important because SA gets you away from the DA trigger weight and you ARE gonna want that.
