Just picked up a new 317 with 3 inch barrel, gun has so far been a bit of a disappointment in the accuracy department. I was thinking of replacing the sights, dose anyone know if Smith offers a different front and rear sight.

Also what is an acceptable amount of windage to have to put on the sight to be zeroed in. My sight is adjusted so far to the left that the blade is flush with the outside of the sight housing, this makes for an awkward grip on the gun as I have to muscle the muzzle over to line up the front and rear sights.

Came up with another question for any 317 owners, mine has a distinct rattle of a part under the sideplate, is this normal?

The rattle is the hammer block safety and is normal for Smith revolvers.

What sights came with your 317? The fiber optic type with v notch rear are not conducive to accurate shooting. Smith can replace them with standard square notch rear and black Baughman style front sight.

I would contact the warranty department at Smith regarding the lack of enough adjustment of your rear sight. This is something that can be corrected at the factory.
