The 32-44 was a great target cartridge, but the more powerful 38-44 had to be better. More detailed information for the 32-44 can be found in this link.
The 32-44 round was shot through a stepped cylinder, while the 38-44 cylinder was bored through for a full length brass case, much like the 320 Revolver Rifle cylinder. Difference was that the 32-44 Gallery load used the same length case, the difference being that the Gallery load used a round ball with the same case length. The 38-44 Galley load was cut down, but still shot through the bored-through cylinder. There is also another rare caliber in this mix and that was the 320 RR caliber offered in the New Model 3, using a bored through cylinder and full cylinder length case.
