I have a nickel .32 DA that the finish has lots of dark spots. When I run my finger nail over the spots they are perfectly smooth. That is, I can't feel the spots from the rest of the finish.
Can I polish them out without harming the revolver? If so how?
Thanks much.

Hi There,

That depends. The darker spots are corrosion
in the nickel plating. You may be able to polish them
out if the corrosion isn't too deep. The polish I like
to use is Simichrome. It is a mild polish when it comes
to its abrasive qualities but is effective. I've never cut
or polished through the nickel using it by hand (and I once
polished a nickel plated music stand by hand for 6 hours
and I was bearing down as hard as I could the whole
time).

Sometimes the blemish in nickel will go all the way down
and cannot be polished out. You will have to try and see.
If the blemishes do not polish out after hand polishing,
just accept the flaws. Do Not try to buff it with polishing
wheels and a buffer/grinder set-up. Machine buffing requires
a special set of skills and equipment and they take time to
acquire.

Cheers!

Flitz polish will lighten & help blend the spots while cleaning & polishing the nickel. It really works. I used it on my nickel plated breaktops. It must never be used on blued guns.
