32 DA Third Issue

Here is a pic of my 32 DA in the fitted case I just finished. The brass plate is a copy of the box end label of that era. Great little top break that I picked up at auction for $40.

2ltCal, Nice display idea. What are the Canadian laws on transfer of ownership on older guns like this one? I've heard that if a hand gun is not already registered in Canada, it can't be legally auctioned, sold or transferred to a new owner? Plus, a Canadian resident can't buy a gun like yours in the US and import it to Canada. True? Thanks, Ed.

Ed, you will not believe the laws we have in Canada. This little .32 DA, which was made in 1883 and only is capable of chambering and firing the .32 S&W short in black powder, is considered a Prohibited Weapon and therefore illegal to own unless you are the holder of an exemption classification 12(6). The 12(6) exemption allows you to purchase and own .32 or .25 centerfire handguns and handguns with a barrel length less than 4.14" on the basis that you owned one prior to Feb. '95.
If you didn't own a prohib prior to '95 you never will!
If you did, then there are some great deals out there.

I guess my dad's Winchester .45-70 was a great steal for $75 Canadian (and walked out the door with it) from an antique store in 1962? He later sold it state side but I wish I had it. It shot great - even with a horrible gouge in the barrel. Welcome to the forum. Mike #283
