32 double action box value

I just got a box from an old top break 32 double action. the box is dark blue( or maybe even black) with a white sticker on one end. it is in really good condition. it has a number written on the bottom ( I think is a serial number). there is a label inside on the top with directions on it. I can not find one anywhere for sale. does anyone know what it may be worth?

32 boxes sell on eBay for about $50-75, unless they are for 6" barrels, in which case they sell for twice that, or more.

welcome to the Forum. A picture would help us value the box for you. Condition is the key to value. Tell us the number on the bottom, as that will date the box for us. What is the style of the box? One piece? Two piece? Flip top? etc. Exactly what does the white sticker say? Ed.

it is a flip top box for a 3 1/2 inch barrel. the number on the bottom is written in pencil and I can't quite make it out, but it is 5 digit. I will check it out with a magnifying lens and get back to everyone. thanks

I finally pulled out the box and stopped acting on memory only. ok, here it is; box is flip top, red/orange sticker, 32 double action, nickel 3 inch. the number on the bottom is 34403(written in pencil). it is dark blue and it good condition. if I can figure out how to post a picture I will asap.

If your still interested in boxes, go to your local library and ask them to get a copy of the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd. Edition" through their inter-library loan. Quite a number of boxes are listed along with prices.

I don't recall seeing any pre-1900 $50 S&W boxes on ebay or other sites for a long time. My guess would be in excess of $100.

I bought this 32 New Departure box on eBay last month for $52 + $10 shipping. The box isn't in great shape and is for a blue 1st Model (which I haven't found yet), but still a good buy.

Nice - I think you got a nice box for a great price! There are still bargains out there, but I don't often run across them and definately missed that one.
