I recently obtained a .32 Hand Ejector third model. It's really gummy inside and I'm cleaning it.

Before I opened it up it had a very heavy trigger pull. Can one of our resident experts tell me what the OEM weight of an I frame revolver of this vintage is? If after cleaning and a bit of polishing, if the trigger pull is still very heavy, I'm wondering if a reduced weight spring from a J frame would work. Any thoughts?

Will post photos when cleaned up.

You don’t say what vintage .32 you have. Are you referring to trigger rebound spring or hammer spring. The hammer spring is giving you the majority of the hard trigger pull.

I presume since you’re asking about a J frame spring replacement, your gun is post about 1950 and therefore an Improved I frame or later model also with coil main spring. Both the I and J frame springs are known to be heavier than the previous flat mainspring on the earlier I frames back to 1896.

I don’t think you’ll be any happier with J frame springs, they’re likely to be the very same spring. I’d suggest you get an aftermarket spring kit with lighter both springs from Wilson, Wolff, etc., or just knip off one coil at a time from your springs until you like the pull. Then test fire to confirm you still have reliable ignition and reliable trigger return.

Let us know how it works out for you.

I am talking about the rebound spring, not the hammer spring. Here are some photos of the .32 Hand Ejector. According to Wolff springs, the rebound springs for J,K L N frames are the same, and come in different weights. I will try a lighter one.
