ANYONE UESED THE 98GR HBWC FROM SPEER. I HAPPENED TO USE A TITEGROUP LOAD THAT WAS A LITTLE TO HOT AND I WOULD SHOOT AT THE TARGET AND 2 HOLES WOULD APPEAR. I CALLED SPEER AND THEY SAID THE HOLLOW BASE SKIRT WAS SEPERATING. THIS WAS FROM A 4 INCH 16-4. ALSO TOOK A WHILE TO CLEAN. I HAVE LOWERED THE POWDER BUT HAVE NOT TRIED YET. I STARTED WITH 3.2 GRAINS AND WENT TO 2.7. THE 3.2 I KNOW IS A GOOD MILD LOAD FOR THE HORNADY 85 JHP.

HBWC + warm load = danger!

Those skirts do a great job of sealing the bore when fired at moderate levels, but the noses run off and leave the skirts if you push them very hard at all, especially with a tight spec bore. Look at starting loads as your standard and increase them only with great care. But you know that already now, don't you? For the record, that JHP will take a great deal more pressure than any lead bullet.

Regards,
Froggie

PS I sure wish I hadn't sold my 16-4 :(

I NORMALLY ALWAYS USED FLAT BASE WC IN 38 SO THIS 32 IS A LITTLE NEW TO ME FOR RELOADING WITH THE HBWC. BUT AS YOU SAID I AM AWARE OF THIS NOW. AS I SAID THE 3.2 LOAD IS A NICE MILD 85GR JHP LOAD AND I DID SOME AT 3.7 WHICH IS A BOOMER FOR ANYTHING THAT MAY SUPRISE ME IN THE WOODS.
