32 S&W Long JHP

Georgia Arms has 85 grain @ 850 FPS JHPs available for 32 S&W Long. Is this likely to be beneficial over regular non-hp ammo or are the Longs just too wimpy to get much out of a JHP loading?

From everything I've seen you aren't too likely to get appreciable expansion at 850fps unless it is a really soft lead bullet.

I own a .32 but never considered it a SD load. I just liked the gun and that happens to be the caliber it's chambered in. Because of that I never did any chronographing or testing in that caliber.

From the chronograph tests and testing I have done in other calibers over the years, most velocities and performance stats are a bit over-stated by almost all manufacturers! The one & only manufacturer that is spot-on and sometimes actually results are better than stated is Buffalo Bore. You can take his published velocities to the Bank!

That said, I'd seriously hesitate using a 32 for SD unless it is the largest caliber you own.

At one time GA Arms had 50 round baggies of those 32 S&WL JHPs at gun shows around here at an attractive price… these days if you don't reload, you'll probably have to take whatever you can find. I doubt you will have any significant performance gains using JHPs in this rather mild caliber, but they won't hurt anything.
My preference for hand loading is a lead SWC, but they don't show up in factory loads very often.
