Actually, Hondo44, the top strap indicates to me possible/probable holster wear, the rest of the finish is intact. I couldn't get that to show in a picture.
The factory letter says its "an interesting little revolver, to bad it cannot talk." Well, it's saying a lot to me, I love it. It returned home with me from Tulsa.

The funny thing about this is that when they were being manufactured, nobody wanted one. Now, collectors are tripping all over themselves trying to acquire one in nice condition and the prices are steadily moving upwards.

Ivory beads are interesting. I had read about them for years, but had never owned a gun with one until I bought a Winchester 86 with one of the long pivoting rear aperture sights and an ivory front sight. What I found was that the ivory has some quality that makes it more visible in low light conditions than other materials. I gained an extra 15 -20 minutes of hunting in early morning or late evening, and better visibility in the shadowed woods.

What caliber M1886 do you have? I always liked those. A college professor that I knew had one in .45-90. It were a hoss!
D.B. Wesson was Douglas B. Wesson, grandson of Daniel B. Wesson.
I hate to say this, but S&W never made a revolver in "32 Special".

glowe is joshing with you...your thread title says ".32 'Special' order", and there is a lever action rifle round with that name (.32 'Winchester' Special).
If it could speak, I bet it would say..."wow, look at all those other Smith & Wessons right next to me in the gun cabinet!"

Doesn't the ivory in that sight make you feel guilty? That little gun should be destroyed or sent to me for proper disposal. All joking aside, did you know it was ordered by a Wesson when you bought that fine little piece or was that a factor letter that really made your day?

I thought I'd bring this up to date. The rebound spring crumbled like last year's Girl Scout cookies. The seller was able to provide a suitable replacement and it functions fine now. The ivory bead works like a charm. This target is my first attempt. All shots were left hand, bullseye style, at 13 yards. I started out low right but adjusted and kept all 48 on the plate, steadily moving toward center, sort of.
