327/627 2" vs 640 Pro?

I know it isn't in the same league but what about considering an sp101? That thing is built like a freakin tank.

This is true. Nothing wrong with a Ruger, but they will never have the finesse of a Smith & Wesson. When your young it's all irrelevant as you age like a fine wine you come to appreciate things.

Another point to consider. For the cost of a 327, you can afford 2 J frames. Actually easier to carry, and 10 shots. I like black centennials a lot.

I'm a fan of commonality and think the 640 makes the most sense in your case. Although, since you like the 642, maybe consider buying a duplicate one as a dedicated range gun. You could even buy two more for the price of a 640 and even carry two if you ever wanted to do so(New York reload).

After thinking more on this, I'm actually leaning toward the model 60 pro. I hadn't though of it before but its still a j frame but all steel with longer barrel and better sights then my 642. It's not as cool as the 327 or 627 but its a heck of a lot more cheaper.

I love mine alot! it's my EDC almost every day. Also allows me to put my 637 in my pocket for a NY reload if I chose too.

The 60 Pro is a great shooter as well. The trigger is not bad out of the box. I just put an Apex Spring Kit in mine this week and took it to the range yesterday. No light primer strikes out of at least 100 rounds and the trigger is between 6 and 7 lbs double action.

The 60 weights about a pound and half loaded with Speer Short Barrel 135 gr. +P .38's, and I carry it in a Simply Rugged Pancake holster. I can also put the 637 in the same holster if I want. The only .357's I've run through it have been the full house 158 grain variety. The gun shoots them accurately. I think the Model 60 Pro Series would work well for your intended use! I hope this helps!

So today I went to local gun show here in Atlanta. It was packed and I really didn't see any good deals. They were selling a used sp101 for $599. I did see a 627 for around a grand. It was so packed you couldn't even really look at anything.

After I left, I went to Adventure Outdoors, which was also packed. I looked at several of the different revolver's that you guys have mentioned. They even had a 327 pugnose. The pugnose was a beautiful gun and felt great in the hand. It was freakin huge though. That wasn't a bad thing but that price was even bigger. I then looked at the 640 pro. That was a very nice gun and felt great in the hand. It also had a better trigger then my current 642. I then asked the clerk to bring out a model 60 pro and Ruger Sp101. The Ruger was a tank and reminded me of a steel forged hammer. It felt good in the hand and the trigger wasn't all that bad, no where as nice a S&W though. The Ruger had an unfinished look to it, like it skipped a final polishing step during manufacturing. The model 60 pro was a piece of art. In the hand, it felt like a surgical instrument. The trigger is what really sold me on it though. So that's what I got.

Hey GA,

That's outright theft unless it was doctored up. And not by a garage gunsmith either. :)

I'll say this to ya, if you rush in and buy something that you really don't feel good about it's highly unlikely you'll ever feel real good about it. Might want to step back and save some more coin and get what you really want. Just something to think about.

Good luck to ya.
