This week I purchased both a 327 TRR8 and 327 M&P R8.

The TRR8's double action is somewhat heavier than the M&P R8's, but the TRR8's SINGLE action is AT LEAST DOUBLE, maybe more. The M&P's single action is to die for while the Single Action on the TRR8 is literally the heaviest I have ever experienced on a performance center revolver and I own 7 in .357 as of this M&P R8, and one in 44 Magnum.

So, are there any solutions to this SA action dilemma? I bought both weapons at Larry's in Huntsville, Alabama, can their gunsmith seek to relieve the TRR8's SA without effecting the Performance Center's Warranty?

Is there anything I can do?

THANKS SO MUCH.

Pictured are the TRR8, 627, and 586 L-Comp. Didn't own the M&P at the time of the picture.

You dont indicate what the actual SA pull is on the revolver, but you may be able to simply substitute a slightly lighter rebound slide spring to make the SA more acceptable. Wolff makes several lighter replacements for the rebound sping, from 10 lbs up to 16 lbs. Replacement of the stock OEM rebound spring with a 13 or 14 lb sping should bring the pull down to the 3 to 3.5 lb. range without any further intervention.

The other option would be to contact S&W Customer Service, and explain the issue. 1-800-331-0852.

If this is a brand new PC revolver. Should that even be necessary? I'd ship it off to S&W immediately. I think the problem is more than just a spring.

Buy/borrow an electronic fishing scale and measure the DA and SA trigger pull on the guns in question/comparison. Without knowing , you might send it to S&W just to find it was "in spec" .
If we had values, we could better help.

Whether you give your action a tune-up or your gunsmith does it, if S&W wants to deny a warranty claim because someone besides them worked on it, not much you can do but pay what they say you owe to fix it if you send it in later. Surely though if the barrel gets a defect they couldn't deny it's claim because you changed it's rebound springs.

.

I recently bought a 327TRR8 & a 325TR and the TRR8 also had the worse action, though both were ~4.5# SA pull. The TRR8 was noticeably rougher.

Ended up cleaning/polishing up the insides & used a Wolff 14# rebound spring, with 1-1/2 coils cut off. The TR ended up at a nice 2.5# SA while 3.0# was the best the TRR8 ended up at. Close enough. :)

They are both Performance Center guns and nearly identical except a few non-action stuff. They should both be buttery smooth in DA and SA, so why not send it back to S&W?

FYI-I have a 327 M&P R8. My single action trigger pull weight is approx. 2# and double action is approx. 8 #. These numbers are an average of 10 pulls recorded with a Lyman Trigger Pull Gauge.
