329pd Blast Shield crack and forcing cone erosion

I guess you either love it or you hate it. I bought one when they first came out(cheaper) and fired it with the 2 sets of grips it came with hated it and sold it. But my second one I like because I put the bigger grips on and realized that it was not a range gun but a dang fine carry all day outdoor gun. Mine has been to see Bowen and is better for it. Its dialed in for Garret 310 gr LBT at about a 1000 fps and I reload 300 XTP HP to a moderate level for something that will open up a bit on target and a little practice and I,m a happy man.

S&W replaced the blast shield, the barrel and the cylinder. They test fired it as well.

I'm not sure why either the barrel or cylinder were replaced - but maybe there was some sort of alignment problem...

S&W's customer service is top-notch.

When I saw your picture and noticed the errosion, which is what it is, localized above the chamber axis, I suspected that, but couldn't be sure. Does look like there is an alignment issue. And maybe S&W wanted to go to school on your used parts, too. :D That's a bunch of rounds through that gun!

Speaking as a 329PD owner myself, I assure you I won't live long enough to put 1000 magnums through my gun, and there are probably a lot of folks like me.

I agree with you that S&W's customer service is usually pretty darned good. Thanks for the interesting report. :)
