I have a 329pd with the stock rubber grips installed. The thing is brutal to shoot with 44 mag ammo. I understand that the S&W 500 rubber grips will fit the 329 and tame the recoil. Does anybody know the exact part number of the oversize grips? I would like to order a set from the S&W website.

Thanks

I have one, too.

While the M-500 grips will help, the recoil of that pistol, with full-charge .44 Magnum ammo, is always going to be brutal. Lighter ammo is the only real adjustment you can make that will help.

My 329PD came with wooden stocks, as did all the one's I've seen pictured. I didn't know they ever came with rubbers, thanks for the information.

I solved the problem by following BUFF's advice. :)

The first M-329's came with both rubber and wood grips. The rubber ones were not the same ones S&W puts on the M-500. I fired 6 Federal 240 grain JHP factory rounds with the wood grips and took them off, never to return. The stock synthetics were only marginally better.

Rubber Grips

Mine came with both wood and rubber grips. The rubber grips dampen the recoil a little better than the wooden ones. I understand from reading this forum that the S&W 500 grips make the pistol considerably more manageable. I plan to get a set and see if they work. Thanks for all the info.

My 329PD came new with both wood and smallish Hogue rubber grips.On one of my gun's returns back to the factory to have the top strap shield replaced, I sent back both sets of grips and asked for an exchange to the Hogue/Smith 500X frame grip. They obliged, and I've been a happy camper ever since.

return to the factory

My 329 made a trip back to the factory to repair failures to fire. They replaced the firing pin and I haven't had any problems since. Hopefully it will stay 100% reliable.

Here are those grips on a 329NG. Makes a big difference, especially protecting the middle finger from getting zinged by the trigger guard. Yes there is substantial recoil but not painful, IMHO. FWIW the NG weighs about 3 oz more than a PD.

I've observed, over time, that grip composition doesn't matter much. To me, anyway. Rubber or wood feel about the same. What matters is fit. If the grips fit your hand all is well. When I owned a 329PD I used wood Eagle Secret Service grips, which suit me. My recoil solution was shooting handloads, 240gr at 950fps, which will handle anything I'll ever shoot and is pleasant in the 329.
