329PD Night Sights?

Hi,
I am new to revolvers and am buying a new 329PD 4" in two weeks. I put money down on it yesterday and inspected it however I do not like the sights. Does any company make a 3 dot tritium night sight I could install to replace the high viz and V-notch sight system. I do have access to a machine shop to make modifications if necessary. As stupid as this sounds I will be using this gun primarily as a backup for my Glock 19 while I am in the woods or in the twin cities. Thanks for any replies.

Well first off, I know of no tritium replacement sights available for the 329PD. Personally, I kinda like the sighting system, on it. It works for me. And it works everyday.

Maybe I have been retired too long, not getting the point, or just flat in the dark. Why on earth would you want a 26 oz. .44 magnum, N frame handgun, backing up a Glock 9mm. Maybe the other way around, I can understand. But, have you ever tried to conceal an N frame S&W? Being as you said, you are new to revolvers, I am guessing that answer is no.

One more question. Have you ever fired a .44 magnum, in any handgun? There is a lot of people on this board absolutely abhor the recoil of a 329PD. Some of these folks are owners of the .500 S&W. That includes chucking the S&W stock grips and going with the X frame Tamer grips.

My thinking is a nice .357 in real live steel, instead of a super lightweight .44 magnum built out of titanium and scandium, is going to work a lot better for you. If you will want a lightweight .44, then a 629 Mtn. Gun, might be the ticket.

Well, lose the Glock when you are in the woods - the 329 is all you need. The G19 is nice to conceal and plenty of ouchy for the urban blight - carting an N-frame around concealed is a bit difficult.

Any sighting system for S&W N-frame revolvers will work on the 329 as far as I can tell. I'll agree that the V-notch rear and red dot front takes some getting used to and it's not the best for precision. But it grows on you after awhile - I'm comfortable with mine now.

Thanks for the replies. A friend has a 4 inch mountain gun that I have carried iwb with a Glaco holster and found it to be very comfortable, just too heavy. That's why I chose the 329pd. I will only be using full power loads and I understand its gonna hurt a lot more than his mountain gun so I probably will put the x frame rubber grips on it. I plan to carry it a lot and shoot it little. I've carried the same glock 19 and have put several thousands of rounds through it. It is always with me and I am comfortable with the Winchester ranger T's for ammo. 127 +P+ at 1250 is sufficient for my CCW needs. I live in the woods and drive my Harley through hundreds of miles of forest roads with bear, moose, timber wolves, and meth heads. I just like carrying a back up gun.

Has anyone tried the metro light 22771 sights on this pistol?

Take a look at Bowen Arms. They have a package for the 329 PD. I have one on mine and its great.

Well, since you are close to the twin cities, I suggest you go find a range that you can rent a 329PD. To be safe, a pair of Past recoil reducing gloves, and the hottest brand of ammo you plan to carry. Shoot it. Shoot it a lot, or for as long as you can stand it.

Glock 19 for urban usage. 329PD for things that are fuzzy, and bite. Not all meth heads are fuzzy.

The comparison of the 329PD and the S&W Mtn. Gun, with full .44 magnum factory loads, is about as different as night and day.

Well,
I ordered the Meprolight ML22771 adjustable night sights from Brownells and the 294670000 grips from Smith and Wesson. I will let you guys know in a couple of weeks on how it turns out.

I own one of these guns and I will echo what has been stated above...go shoot one befoe you buy it, if you can. The recoil with full power ammo is pretty fierce.

I already had them order it and put money on it so I am buying it for sure. I understand it will hurt to shoot it but I don't plan on an all day range session with it either. However if the need ever comes where I need it to save my life, recoil will be the last thing on my mind.

I have the Meprolight rear on my 627 with an SDM front sight. This is because this particular revolver uses the IFS system.

I can not recall how man years I have had this setup, but I am happy with it
