For those of you that do not reload, what is your favorite .32H&R carry/defense ammo? I have a 4.2" Ruger SP101 in 327FM and don't see carrying 327 as the best idea, so I am looking into a good place to start with .32H&R ammo. Thank you in advance guys.

I like and use Blackhills 85 gr Jacketed Hollowpoint. It is easy to shoot and is accurate.
Lost River makes a 130 gr 'Keith" style round. It is interesting as hard hitting, deep penetrating round.

I happen to have quite a bit of 85 gr Federal that shoots well...what is wrong with 327 Fed?? I too have a 101 in 327...a bit loud but a good round...very...effective. If you ever do reload the H&R can be bumped up a fair amount.

The .32 H&R Magnum is barely more that a .32 S&W Long +P. It is such an anemic cartridge as factory loaded That I would not recommend any factory loads for self-defense. By handloading though, and in a strong revolver, the .32 H&R can become a true magnum cartridge!

Understand that I am a ".32 guy", owning numerous .32 caliber firearms from .32 S&W to .32-20, S&W Colt, Marlin, Walther and several European guns in any of several .32 caliber cartridges.

If you desire a .32 caliber revolver for self-defense I would strongly recommend a .327 Federal, or better still any of numerous .38 Special revolvers, regardless of manufacturer!

Why?
What would be your propose for carrying this gun?
I have a 101 and lcr in .327 Fed. Other then target practice or getting a novice shooter moving along then mine have full .327 loads in them.
I have used .32 H&R loads to shot pest a couple of times.

gjgalligan, if I were going to go into a situation where there was any probability of confrontation (with gunfire) I would want the biggest, loudest round that I could practically carry. The 327 fills that description nicely. If I thought there was a likelihood of trouble, I would either not go or take a 12 gauge shotgun, preferably along with several friends similarly armed.
In direct answer to your question, even the lightest factory loaded 327s have effective (if light weight) bullets, moving rapidly, and make a lot of noise! 😉

High Desert Cartridge Company has developed 4 different 32 H&R magnum rounds in conjunction with the folks at American Fighting Revolver. They have a 98 grain Wadcutter, 100 grain RNFP, 98 grain wadcutter in a nickel case and a 100 grain JHP in a nickel case. They did a lot of work to get this JHP round to expand consistently out of a 1 7/8" barrel, so out of your barrel it should be a real winner. Anyway, it is a great company with a lot of knowledge behind them. They also load a 98 grain wadcutter in the 32 S&W Long. Everything seems to be "in stock" currently.

We all seem to carry guns that are smaller and smaller caliber than optimal...mainly to facilitate carrying...I'm not a 9mm fan but do carry a sig 365...bigger in the vehicles. I would not feel under gunned with a good 327

The only thing wrong with just using 327 is how loud it is. With ear pro it's not a big deal, but shooting a couple rounds without is gonna leave your ears ringing for days. In theory, I would be more likely to use this as home defense than carry. I would really only carry it if I wanted to carry something with more of a cool factor than my shield 45.

For my S&W 432UC, I've gone to the Federal Hydra-shok deep. I've seen good performance with pretty much all calibers of the Hydra-shok deep in Gel tests I've watched on YT.

auditory exclusion is a a true concept...in a defensive situation you really don't notice the noise or recoil for that matter...shooting a slug gun at sight in is brutal...hunting you really don't feel or hear the same. follow up shots aare felt and heard normally

I shoot 32 H&R and 32 S&W Long exclusively in my LCRx 327. It will never see any 327 while I own it. In 32 H&R it shoots Black Hills 85 JHP very well; also 32 S&W Sellier & Bellot 100 RN, and Magtech 98 LWC. All three did quite well in Chris Baker's (LuckyGunner.com) modified FBI gel penetration testing. But the S&B 100 groups so well, and shoots so easy, that's what I usually carry.

Stock has been somewhat spotty of late, but Georgia Arms has provided some very nice JHP 32 H&R. They are commercial loaders and their products have always been satisfactory to me. They frequently use new Starline brass.

I used to get all my 32 H&R from Georgia Arms. After their fire they didn't have any for quite awhile. I just checked and all they have 100 gr Round Nose Flat Point. I still have some of their JHP for when I carry my SP101. For the range on all of my 32 Mags I've been using 32 S&W Long.

I set up email notifications at Lucky Gunner and Gunstop for 32 H&R and 32 S&W Long. When they get batches they both have competitive prices and great customer service. You do need to pull the trigger promptly while supply lasts.
