The .32 H&R Magnum is barely more that a .32 S&W Long +P. It is such an anemic cartridge as factory loaded That I would not recommend any factory loads for self-defense. By handloading though, and in a strong revolver, the .32 H&R can become a true magnum cartridge!
Understand that I am a ".32 guy", owning numerous .32 caliber firearms from .32 S&W to .32-20, S&W Colt, Marlin, Walther and several European guns in any of several .32 caliber cartridges.
If you desire a .32 caliber revolver for self-defense I would strongly recommend a .327 Federal, or better still any of numerous .38 Special revolvers, regardless of manufacturer!
