I ran across a 34-1 with a 2" barrel. It also has the box & paperwork, the owner says it was made in 1977. It doesn't show any wear, but it's nickel plated. The asking price is $550, that seems on the high end to me price wise.

The price on smiths seem to be going up so fast & I've never really taken a good look at the 34's before. Is the price out of line or am I that far behind the times?

I think that price may be a bit high, but not too far off the mark, especially for nickel. Model 34's seem to be a prized possession. I have a 4" SB Model 34-1 I bought new around 1980 (blue two piece - Bangor Punta? - box) and it's the only gun my Wife will shoot.

I just picked up another very nice 4" SB Model 34-1 (looks to be about 1983 manufacture with the flip-top Lear Seigler box) for a smokin' deal at $350. It is missing only the instruction sheet (I hope to pick one up soon) and has slight wear on the end of the muzzle. Otherwise, it's a pristine piece. The shop that sold it to me knows that I've been looking for deals on good .22 handguns for our NRA Women on Target program. Otherwise, it would have gone for at least $100 more.

Little high maybe...this year. In a couple of years, who knows? Buy it now and pay too much. You don't see these for sale very often, because once somebody buys one why would they sell it? You will ALWAYS need a good 22 revolver. I have a round butt J frame that is my first "go to" gun for new shooters. I would not sell it.

I have a nickeled Model 34-1 2". It's been a great disappointment in that there is no way to adjust the rear sight down enough to zero it at short range. It prints 10" high at 7 yards at maximum sight depression. This one was made in 1981; I paid $500 for it in August of last year. It's one of the few Smiths I have that I would gladly part with. I've acquired a box and papers for it in the meantime, so it looks pretty and complete...but I just can't shoot it accurately and there's no way short of major surgery to get it to print where it should. Rats.

The price is a little high, but if I ran across it I would still buy it.I have 2 model 34-1 with the 2 inch barrel. It is one of my most favorite guns.I shoot at least one of mine almost daily.Mine are accurate from 3 feet out to 25 yards.Buy it.Have seen several lately in various condition from 80% to 95%.None of them had the box or paperwork.Priced between $475 to $525.

Thank you for your replies,I had no idea what their worth. I sold most of my smiths off years ago & just started collecting them again. This time to shoot & enjoy them.

I just bought a nice 34-1 4" barrel, blued, no box or papers for $375.00 plus tax. A little rust on the butt, otherwise, very nice. I bought it at a Cabelas and they wanted $399.99, I got them down to $375.00 without much trouble, but they weren't going to drop the price any further. Range report and pictures will follow.

Best of luck,

Dave
