Not sure if this is an option but I was wondering if the HIVIZ front sight on my 340PD could be replaced with a tritium night sight and if so how difficult would it be to do? Thanks.

Is the 340 a pinned sight or a removable one?

I think your sight is fixed, So, you have to remove the pin, then order the front site you want. Redrill the new sight using a # 54 drill and then replace the pin. Not hard, but you need to locate the front blade, that's the hard part...I don't know if it's made or not, so check Brownells, MidwayUSA etc.

This sight pictured is the removable front blade found on some guns. If the base is oval with a pin thru it, then that is a fixed sight.

I just took a look at my front sight and there is a pin holding it in place but it looks a bit different from the pic you posted. My sight is green and isn't as tall - it's not dovetailed like the one in the pic - Not sure if I'll attempt this project on my own but I really appreciate the help.

JT,
The one 500 pictured (above) is one of two types as he said.
While one could be fooled into thinking the one pictured above IS a dovetail type, it too is retained by pin(s). The pins pass through the barrel shroud on the type pictured above, in such a position as to disallow the front blade from working it's way up and out. The pins go through at the narrowest point of the lower (mounting) half of the sight.
The other type (I describe this style of mount as a biscuit or woodruff key) is the second type 500 described. This is the one that must be fitted and drilled for the pin to pass through it. My J frames have the later type. If you decide to go Tritium, and there is NOT a direct replacement available (if the pictured type), I have seen the woodruff style blade, used in the trapezoid style milled guns, by using only one of the two pin holes available for mounting. But doing it that way, will leave a portion of the milling notch for the trapezoid style blade still visible upon completion. IIRC, brother member Headknocker has done this conversion and may still have the pictures floating around. Hopefully he'll read this and comment.
GREAT PIX as always 500!

Ok I just scanned the other type of front site. This is the fixed type that must be drilled and pinned to be put on.
