I left the manual at work and getting ready to head to the range with the 340 and p238. I am a beginner with revolvers and not sure how to oil and clean. Looks like it doesn't require much. I very lightly oiled for first trip. Any advice on what not to do? Thanks

You say 'lightly oiled.' Chambers should be dry, not oily. Use a fitted patch to swab out any lube that might be in the chambers before firing. This is IMPORTANT. The case upon firing should be able to 'grip' the walls of the chamber. If oily, the case cannot do so and there could be a pressure problem. This was not uncommon in the 70s when some would literally bathe their guns in WD-40.

You picked a great carry gun. The 340pd is gun you will always have with you. I would start off shooting stranded 38spl. FMJ and work your way up to +p ammo. Now shooting 357 magnum ammo is something you won't forget. That being said I shoot full power 357 loads better then +p loades. But it didn't happen over night. I had mine for years and love the gun. Took my p238 and 340pd to the range today. Shot 125gr fmj 38s,135gr fmj,and 14 rds of gdhp-sb 357 mag. The 357 deffinately had some snap but nothing I can't handle. Although I was more accurate with the 38s. As someone else said on here, the 357 was high and to the right. The 38s grouped nicely for my less than steady hands. At 21 ft I could easily get them in a 5" circle and a few dead center. Less flash and alot faster back on target also with38s. Bottom line, as much as I like the p238, it is for sale now along with 2000rds of ammo. I love the little revolver and it will be my new carry. I have become a revolver man.
