Hey guys, been a while since I've been on here regularly. I have a question I'm hoping I can get some constructive answers on.

I have a couple hundred older xtreme 125 grain plated .357 bullets that I can't get to shoot real well in any of my guns. Measuring a few some are .357 and some are .356. I figured maybe I could use them in 9mm. Searching the web a little I see that xtreme offers .357 147 grain bullets so this looks promising. If I find some time I may slug a couple of my 9mm's to see what they're at or make up a dummy round or 2 with the .357's and see if they chamber. Has anyone on here tried .357 plated or jacketed in 9mm? Shooting paper only and not going for max fps.

If not these shoot at least "ok" in my Rossi r92 so I could just use them up in that.

Not plated or jacketed, but I have chrono'd Eggelston (HyTech coated) 9mm .356 (115, 124 & 147 gr), .357 (115 & 124 gr), and also .358 (115& 124 gr) from a 5" S&W M&P using both AA5 and W231 powders. I found the 115 gr .357 to have the lowest standard deviation and to be the most accurate. No problems with the .358 and insignificant velocity changes for the same weight bullets. -S2

Since I don't load 9s I really can't address the issue other than to say I have a few 100 plated 125 bullets I can't get to shoot well either. Even the HBWCs that are plated don't shoot well with any load so far. You really have nothing but a little time to lose. Oh mine are Berry's plated

I use jacketed .357 bullets in my beretta, it seems to help accuracy. They were the 135gr. round nose, they used to be my choice for my 38 super. Taper crimp just below the cannelure.

I have tried different weights and calibers of Berry's and Ranier plated bullets and can only get shotgun type patterns out of them. This is in the same guns that shoot tight groups with cast and lubed lead, cast and polymer coated lead, and jacketed. No more copper plated for me. Apparently there are some guns that will shoot them, but none of my S&W revos will.

As long as your 9mm's don't have tight, minimum diameter chambers, you really should have no problems with plated bullets of .356 or .357 diameter.

This ^^^^ exactly. Chamber dimensions vary widely, and performance in any individual pistol will have to be proven on a case-by-case basis.

I have successfully used thousands of cast .358" bullets sized to .357" and loaded in 9X19 in Browning Hi Power and S&W 9mm pistols over the years. However, when tried in a friend's Colt Commander 9mm the same ammo will not chamber and results in repeated failures to feed.

The same old Browning Hi Power has proven capable of digesting .357" jacketed hollow points by a couple of different manufacturers.

I'll say it's just best to load some up & try them in the pistol you what to & see how they go.

Some time ago I found some Accura 125gr P-RNFP .357 bullets for a good price & even though I don't usually shoot 125gr in my 357s I couldn't pass them up.

These ended up shooting very good in a 357 revolver I tested them in so I thought I'd give them a try in my 3566 Limited with it's 9x19 barrel.

The bullets mic'd at .3583" so I ran them thru my Lee .357" Push-Thru sizer & they came out .3567", which seemed good for the 9x19.

The bullets had a cannulure on them which of course wasn't used in the 9x19 rounds as they were lightly taper crimped.

I tried three different powders at multiple charge weights but never found a combination that was satisfactory, in fact most grouped erratically.

They got used up in the 357s. :p

When I first tested coated 9mm bullets , 50 were a .358 dia.

In my 3.5" pistol, they would not fit into my chamber and "Go home"
to a full seating.

the .357 worked but they did do the "Hour glass" thing to the 9mm mixed cases, that I used.

I have really great results with X-Treme plated 125 grain bullets. I had made up 38 Special, 38 Special +P and 357 Magnum loads Using Bullseye, BE-86, Unique and W-231.

I say shoot them in your Rossi.
