I have a smith Wesson 357 magnum serial # 8k88021 mod. 18-3. Does anyone know the date era of this gun. I have owned it since 1982. I bought it for my wife and she says she'll never sell, although I have tried with no luck of course. She just loves the gun but never shoots it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the Forum! Look closely, are you sure it isn't a Model 13? That is a 357 magnum, and a Model 18 is a 22 LR. I don't have my SCSW handy, so I can't give you a manufacture date. I'm sure someone will be along shortly that can though.

Its probably a 19-3, if it has adjustable sights, or a 13-3 if it doesnt. It's either mis-marked or the 9 looks like an 8. Probably made about 1976.

I can't think of any good reasons to sell it. Its a classic, sought after vintage; beautiful lines; shoots great; appreciating in value; no longer made; goes great on the nightstand; can shoot .38 spl as well as .357 magnum; and will make a great heirloom. Oh, and it's your wife's gun. Did I miss anything?

Plan a pik-nik somewhere nice where you can shoot, take the 19 and some 38 spcl target loads, after you are about done eating set up some empty milk jugs or some such similar reactive target and bet her that she can't hit it.

That'll work.
