Which books were you looking at? Lyman 49, Speer 14 and Hornady 7 all have loads for it. Keep in mind, some manuals have a seperate T/C section.

I used to load for the Ruger and TC's in .357 Maximum and found that WW296 powder worked well using bullets in the 160-180 grain range. It is a great cartridge that deserves a better fate than it has had.

I shoot a lot of Max Loads. I have load data in most of the modern manuals. Also Nosler 6 had data for the max beyond the list given above.

I shoot mostly 4227 loads since I have a Ruger and I try to avoid ball powders with it. The DW does not care but the Ruger needs to be baby-ed.

Go for heavy bullets and avoid the under 158 grn light loads.

Lately I have been shooting a lot of 180 grn Lasercast FP's with WSR primers and 20 grns of 4227. This is a nice mild plinking load out of my guns. Hot enough to be fun, but not so hot that it is hard on anything.

357 max data

I found a photo copied page that I used for info It is from a sierra handgun manual, 3rd edition lookes like pg 296 and 297. with 3 different bullet weights.

thanks for the info, i am surprised the lyman 49 has it as my 46 ed. don't. but i did find that the lee handloading book has a pretty good listing, thanks again for the info.

For Hodgdon, IMR and Winchester propellants, go here:

There was nothing intrinsically wrong with the round. Some of the guns chambered for it were a different story. It"s velocity capabilities also surpassed the capabilities of .38 caliber bullets then available as reloading components.
