357 sig Shield?

Are there any plans to make a 357 sig version of the shield?

Will the 40 cal version be able to convert to a 9 (or 357)?

Enquiring minds want to know.....

I'm not in the know or anything, but I doubt they will come from the factory. Someone will probably just make conversion barrels. That's my guess.

+1. I doubt if the Factory will do a .357, but Lone Wolf and others will probably offer conversion barrels/sets.

One of the other threads discussed 9mm conversion sets for the Shield 40... When one member itemized what it would cost for a 9mm barrel and mags, it would be within $100 of getting a 2nd pistol, making it almost more cost effective to simply buy a 2nd Shield in 9mm than to buy a conversion set.

I would like to see it

A case could be made for buying a 40 cal, then having an option of a 9mm for practice and 357 for carry

Does anyone know if the 9mm barrel drops into the 40 cal?

I don't think the 3" barrel would get enough oomph out of .357 sig to be viable. Not enough difference between it and a hot 9mm load.

SIGMAs and M&Ps have both been produced in small runs chambered for 357SIG

I would bet money on there being at least one run of 357SIG Sheilds.

The cartridge is too popular with both Federal and State Law Enforcement Agencies to ignore it.

The subject about a 357C barrel fitting in a Shield .40 has been brought up by myself and others since the announcement of the Shield last month.

Some say it might work and others say no.
Whether the Shield's barrel would give the traditional .357 SIG
"pressure wave" for high velocity stopping power over the hotter
9mms is unknown as well.

I'd carry the extra length of the 357C barrel with no problem though.

People do it with G32 barrels in g33s and g27s all the time.

My choice for a .357 load would be the 80 gr. or 115 gr. DT Barnes
TAC-XP, the same two weights that I use in my 9mms.

and did(115) in my M&P357C.

Newbie here. Not really a handgun nut but seeking some info.
Not to resurrect a dead thread, but a forum search came up empty.
Is there any new info about the .357 Sig barrel fitted onto the .40 Shield.
I bought a .40 shield with the express purpose of switching out the barrel to .357 Sig before doing exhaustive research on the availability of California-legal handguns so I ordered what I found. I know, I really should have bought locally but now that it's here.......... The gun will not be fired until I have a amenable solution as I never intended to run with .40 S&W. Just as a donor for the .357 barrel. My mistake. Perhaps I need to consider loading and shooting .40 S&W.
I do reload.
I do have .357 Sig dies
I do have 500 ct. .357 Sig brass and 2000 hollow points ready
There are M&P drop-in after-market barrels that are 3.58 inch long. I could live with the extra half inch sticking out if it fits properly otherwise.
Any guidance would be appreciated

You can also pay a gunsmith to shorten the barrel a tad bit.

S&W has discontinued the M&P in .357 Sig. Why would they make one in a Shield configuration? Many have been clamoring for a 10mm and it doesn't look like they're going to make one of those any time soon.

There aren't even any aftermarket barrels for the Shield in .357Sig. Of course you could start making them. I'm sure you'd sell as many as you could make.

Yes, I'm now aware that nobody makes a barrel in .357 Sig for the Shield, being a half- inch shorter than the others, I drew that conclusion while shopping for one.
What I am seeking is, aside from the length, is it the same dimensions as one for other models? The extra half inch of length is a bonus

M&P barrels, including the Shield, have a slight bell at the end that stabilizes the front of the barrel in the slide when in battery. The bell on the "c" barrel would be in front of the slide if inserted into the Shield.

Thank you, V0OBW. That's exactly what I needed to hear even if it's not what I WANTED to hear . The gun is still at the FFL until Tueseday when the wait period is up. Not having that notable feature on either of my .22 handguns, I hadnt considered that. Upon closer inspection of Storm Lake M&P barrels I now notice the shallow ramp just prior to the barrel tip.
I'm likely going to need a pep talk and reassessment over this blunder. Not that the .40 Shield isn't a great piece. It just isn't what I was preparing for. Yup. Delusional. But I rather enjoy most of it. . I Can still have a bang up time out of this one anyway.

It will still be a good gun. Besides, .357SIG is expensive. Use it as is and save a ton of money.

I'd bet some custom barrel maker could make a .357Sig barrel out of the same blanks, but they will charge an eye-popping price. You would have to do some work to find a place willing to do it, but I have heard of similar projects.

Just pick up a M&P Compact .357.
Likely cost a lot less than a custom Shield Barrel.
They're out there.
Summit Gunbroker had a bunch of them NIB.
Pretty potent little heaters.
