37 ~ the J Frame step-child

Folks talk a great deal about the 36, 60 and newer J Frames.

My only J is this 37 I found locally a couple of years back. I'm also practicing with a new-to-me camera!

I have always like the 37, and the 38.....and the 43. The lightweight J frames are great. Do they wear out faster? I dunno, but I carry it more than shoot it.

I like the after market grip....is it a tyler? I also have a Mod37, square butt, and hoping to get a similar grip attachement and some nice after markert stocks (grips).

that's a nice little gun. I have a 37 no dash RB but even though it's in great mechanical condition, it ain't nowhere close to yours in the looks department. I once put a new set of magnas like the original grips on it and it looked strange due to the condition of the finish. The original grips that are on it are numbered to the gun and they are worn about the same as the gun so they are on it. Maybe someday I'll be able to afford to have the cylinder and barrel reblued, but then again, it's seldom idle long enough for that.

Yes, that's a Tyler T-Grip I bought used from a local buddy. Sanded it down some and sprayed it with glossy black Krylon. This gun came with a set of those goofy "clip-grips" (Banami brand??) or something of the sort but I'm a lefty and they didn't work for me. I got those grips from a forum member here.

opaul ~ I think the T-Grips only work with factory grips.

Hi,

The T-grips will also work with aftermarket, original design (magna) stocks, such as this set of Elk Stags from Patrick Grashorn of Grashorn Gunworks.

This is my "always" (on me) CCW revolver. I replaced the original Smith stocks when I got this nice 1971 specimen and put 'em in the safe . . . and the Elk stags are forgiving (and LOOK GREAT), IMHO. Love the Tylers too, and how the gun feels and handles with them on when shooting.

BTW, nice square butt. My wife has a square M37 w/ a 3" barrel. We both like our M37s for light, yet potent, protection on a daily basis.

I have a 637-2 and love it. I did bob the hammer as I intend to carry it in my front pocket and the hammer made that a difficult task.

The 37's are great revolvers; lightweight, have a gloss blue finish, no lock, no MIM, quality fit, and $350 - $400 will buy a nice one.

I searched for quite a while before finding this nickel M37. It is not perfect, but I really like it. I do not consider mine a "step-child", but I do carry it much more than shoot it.

I "fell into a new one" in the mid '70's. It was a round butt with a nickel finish. I carried that thing inside my Sam Broown behind a cuff case, in the left front pocket (I'm right handed) and with a ankle holster. Gave the silly thing to the ex when she had troubles. Wish I still had it, the 37 not the ex!!! It gave me over ten years of great service.
