I just received a letter on a 38/44 Heavy Duty that I bought in June and sent for a this letter around the first of July. I bought the revolver in Okeechobee, Florida, and lettered it to see if it might of come from this area of Florida. I received the letter today and was excited that letter stated that serial number 44985, was shipped from our factory on November 30, 1934, and delivered to Fellsmere Suger Co., Fellsmere, FL. The problem is that the letter states that the revolver is a 38/44 Outdoorsman with a 6.5 inch barrel. The revolver in my hand is a 38/44 fixed sight Heavy Duty with a five inch barrel and is all matching with the serial number 44985. Do I rewrite Roy to ask if it is a mistake? Also does the gentleman that collects Heavy Duty serial numbers have any other Heavy Duties recorded that went to Fellsmere Sugar Co?

Yes, write Roy back. Send a copy of the errant letter and, if possible, a photo of the sixgun.

Fire 17,
I would call Roy via the S&W factory. My guess is that it is a typo on the type of gun and that the ship to data is correct. He will fix it for you and requires the letter be sent back to him. Fellsmere Sugar Co is a new one on me-sorry I've not seen an entry for it. I assume that it is a blue gun with service grips.
Wish I could help more.
Bill

Thanks for all of the replys. I will write Roy Jinks and ask if there has been a mistake. I want to especially thank n4zov for finding me the history of the Fellsmere Suger Co. Its is rare to find revolvers that letters back to Florida, because most of the old revolvers were brought down here by retirees from the north.

There used to be a quaint little gunshop in Okeechobee when I passed through there several years ago- had lots of old guns. I can't remember the name of it though...

I think there was a pawn shop there too...

I have a 1905 HE that lettered to Moore Handley
Co. in Orlando,FL. Oct.27 1919. papabyrd
