Will shooting .38/44 loads in a 27 or 28 cause forcing cone erosion? In Sixguns Keith says he used 13.5gr of 2400 in .38 Special cases and 14.5gr of 2400 in .357 Magnum cases. I think today those charges are a full grain lighter with 2400 powder. If I shoot a lot of 12 or 12.5 gr loads of 158gr or 173gr lead bullets in .38 Special cases will it erode the forcing cone on my revolvers?

First, I think you are referring to the chamber throats, not the forcing cone....right? The forcing cone is the rear end of the barrel shank. Your loads won't affect that area nearly as much as hot 125 grain loads, and they (125's) have never been a problem for a 27/28. Your loads will build up fouling in the chamber just ahead of the taper into the throat.
Second, you'll have to shoot an aweful lot of them to ever see any wear anywhere, especially using a slow powder like 2400. I would however, recommend a very thorough cleaning of your chambers to remove any carbon/powder fouling/lead rings before attempting to fire .357 rounds in your gun after using the .38/44 loads.

Either or, I suppose. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't prematurely damage the firearm. Ever since I got this 27-2 back from S&W, it has become my favorite revolver. the trigger is that nice. I want to enjoy this one forever.

I use 13.5 gr of Alliant 2400 with a 358429 in .38 Special brass or 15.0 gr in .357 brass (it has to be seated deep for the M28 cylinder). There are few guns that shoot lead bullets that experience wearing problems.
The only powder I refuse to use in the M28-2 is H110/W296.
