It;s an unusually warm springlike day here in Michigan and the sun is out and I want to take a couple of pictures of two of my favorite pre war N frame target guns. The 38-44 Outdoorsman was shipped to Sciotoville Oh. in 1936 and the 44 second model target was shipped to Cleveland,Oh. in 1930.

...one liners with target sights...my eye is drawn to the clean lines of the unshrouded barrel...but both are magnificent...

For a long time, I lived near Sciotoville OH, and know it very well. Did the letter say to where it was shipped? There used to be a large general store in Sciotoville, the name of which escapes me (but I'll probably remember it after I send this), and that's the only place there which seems likely to have handled any guns.

I thought of it - Millhuff's. Maybe it's still there, but I doubt it. There's not much in Sciotoville. Milhuff's was a true general store - Groceries, clothing, hardware, household items, furniture, maybe sporting goods, but I don't remember any. Think of an early day version of Big Lots. But they may have carried guns, etc. in 1936. That's somewhat before my time.
-------------------------
It's gone, since 2003. See: Millhuff's Department Store Those pictures bring back memories, as I have been in Millhuff's many times. I think there is now a Wal-Mart not too far away which probably hastened its demise. That general area maintained reasonable prosperity and employment levels during the Depression years, unlike many parts of the country, and it's not difficult to imagine someone from there buying a high-priced gun like a .38/44 Outdoorsman then.

DeWalt, thank you for the picture's of Milhuff's. My 38-44 was shipped on September 28, 1936 to G.H.Millhuff, Sciotoville Oh. It looks like it was shipped directly to Mr. Millhuff rather than to his store.

Looks like ol' G.H. never shot that Outdoorsman's! I always try to imagine the original owner's thoughts when they received their new guns back in the day.
Wonder if it's anything like my giddiness when I get mine.
BTW, I love history, and period movies are some of my favorites, along with the Superhero movies of course.
