I am slowly building a collection of 38/44 Outdoorsman. I especially like the less common lengths.
The 5" McGivern on the right is lettered and is numbered in DCWilson data base.
The 4" on the left is lettered as leaving the factory as a special request 4" (s131228) if anyone is tracking these...

I read mention of nickel Outdoorsmans but I have never seen one

That's quite an impressive collection, already! Looking forward to seeing your additions!:)

I had a pre war & a transitional which I sold, but still have this one PW Outdoorsman, with matching box & grips! These are great guns in every respect!

I was bidding on this nickel 38/44 a little while back but dropped out as the price escalated to the stratosphere. I later wished I had kept going. I posted these auction photos back then with the hope someone here bought it.

Thank you for sharing Retired W4!

Wow!!! What a desirable and gorgeous revolver. I hope someone here has it as well. Something about nickel...

Very nice!

My Outdoorsman and HD are both pre-war. I would like to add a 4" HD at some point, but it's a little ways down the 'list'...

Have had a couple Outdoorsman's over the years, never laid eyes on a nickel version until today (the one posted above).

Did have this McGivern model in my collection for some time, ended up selling it years back when I was downsizing.

I have a nickle 4" HD in original nickle. Was supposed to have been carried by a small town LEO in Buffalo, Texas. I have the original magnas numbered to the gun, but no box.

Great Outdoorsman's Revolvers.:):D They have a special place in my heart as well. I don't have any McGivern Models or nickel ones, but I have a couple of scratched up Outdoorsman's Revolvers (one in 38/44 and one in 22LR) that have some aftermarket nickel on them...

I only have one engraved revolver...

It is an HD. I am almost embarrassed to post anywhere near RKs top tier engraved guns but here goes...

It was probably someones BBQ gun. Its has gentle wear. And it has been chambered in 357.

I am a complete amatuer with regard to engraved guns but as RK once advised me on a pm many years ago (I had sent him a question on a auction)...The engraved gun must "Speak" to you. This one did to me...

I dressed it up with some of Kens moose.

Not an Outdoorsman but, I was fortunate last year in that my wife and daughter surprised me with a very beautiful.38/44 HD from November 1954!
I haven't lettered it, but the box hints that the Target Stocks are original.

I too have an Outdoorsman that shipped in 1952. I had a Heavy Duty from the San Antonio PD, but I sold it off.

This is a Austin PD HD that belonged to my old gun show partner, Bobby O'Shields. RIP Bobby. I tried to buy it from him years ago but he wouldn't sell it. I don't know what happened to after Bobby passed. It's my understanding that Austin let a contract to have them all refurbished before putting them on the market. S&W got the contract. At least that's how I remember it.

Picture taken at the Jim Miller Park show many years ago.

And, NOT exactly a .38-44 Outdoorsman, here's a very seldom seen model marked Mod-23 (Outdoorsman) that I literally stepped into five years ago!

This is a grail gun to me. demkofour that is an amazing revolver. I search all ODs for the tell tale 4 screw ( I am under the belief that model marked 23's will have 4 screws). To see one is fantastic
