I'll add more details in the wee hours tonight ( aka normal time for night shift people ) , but I'm pumped over my new aquisition today . And thinking upon it , probably my first S&W Antique . $200 OTD ( well to walk away from table @ major gun show ) .

4in-ish bbl , Nickle finish , checkered wood grips . I'll have to ponder Antique grading scales , but for a C&R era gun , I'd describe the finish as Good , and the grips have clear checkering .

Next post will have further details , but I am too computer illiterate to post pictures .

Bbl is actually 4 inches . Upon closer inspection grips might be brown hard rubber . S/N is 2430XX .

Seller was a liquidator of estates , and had about 10 S&W Breaktops , and an early .32 Hand Ejector , of which this one was the best . Would seem that a S&W collector's heirs liquidated his collection .

Also cought my eye was a pre M15 , with original grips, plus a set of Ivory , but alas out of my current budget .

That was the highest priced Beaktop on his table . Most were $150 . .32s and .38, conventional and hammerless . The others had more finish wear, but still reasonably well preserved . I looked first at the .32HE, but it had more cylinder slop than I cared for .

Can anyone point me to a date for my pistol ?

The revolver is properly known as a 38 Double Action, 4th Model revolver and that serial number would have shipped around 1902 - 1903 time-frame so it is not antique. The values remain low on this model, mostly since there were over a half-million made and many have survived.
