Hodgdon does not list 158 grain lswc data for .38 +p, I'd like to find data using titegroup, if anybody can help I'd appreciate it.

Hey Eric,

I'm not sure why you want to use that powder but here goes.

From their website:
This data is for a 38spl. +P
158 GR. HDY XTP Hodgdon Titegroup .357" 1.455" 4.3 905 19,300 CUP

If it were me, and you do what you want, I would reduce this load by 10% and shoot it over the chronograph and see where I was velocity wise.

Don't load many, it may not be what you are looking for. Move it up, move it down (not too much in that direction though

)and see how it looks on the target and chronograph.

There is no reason you can't use TiteGroup for this load. There are MANY better powders out there for +P 38 loads though. TiteGroup is too fast in my opinion for +P loadings.

Now that you have my opinion, you can take it and $5 to Starbucks and buy a cup of coffee.

No need to thank me, I'd do it for anyone!

Thanks for the reply, all opinions are welcome, since you dont care for titegroup in this application what do you prefer?

Somewhere between #33 and #44 on the Hodgdon burn rate chart would be good.

I especially like #33. I have some 38spl data that launches that 158gr LSWC out of a 3" "J" frame at 1100fps. That my dear friend is a REAL +P load!

If you were in Finland, it would be legal to talk about such things.

Look here to see what I am talking about:

Most .38 spl +P loads run around 900 fps +/- a few fps. I have ran 3.8grs of Tightgroup with Speer 158gr LSWC bullet in a Winchester case lit off by a WSP primer across my chrono and those loads averaged 877 fps from my S&W M67 4" and 781 fps out of my 2" Colt Detective Special. A load over 4.0grs should put you at +P velocity.

For my +P load using Speer 158gr LSWCHP's I generally use Unique at 5.0 to 5.2gr or load 4.5gr to 4.7gs of W231. 4.7grs matches Winchesters 158gr LSWCHP +P load ballistics and though these are warmer than Hodgdon lists on their website they match the data Winchester used to publish and loads listed in the Speer #13 manual. The 4.5gr load runs at 901 fps and 783 fps from the same pistols respectively. Primers do make quite a bit of difference with CCI 500 providing lower average velocity than the same load using Winchester WSP primers tested on the same day.
