.38 Safety Hammerless

Did a cold blue on my old 3rd model shooter to keep her from rusting. Took her out shooting homemade splatter targets this morning, Lead roundnose handloaded with 13 grains of Pyrodex P, this gun is pretty darn accurate! Lockup is tight, barrel clearance is good. The bore is pretty nice, the exterior , particularly the left side, is pitted, i suspect from lying in a gun case for years. Mechanically, it functions as it were new. I still carry this gun when i want something small to conceal and don't feel like carrying my full size .357 in an open holster.

Love that gun, especially when someone still carries it for SD purposes. I often bring out my chopped 2nd Model .38 for that reason, and always get comments from fellow gun owners that they would "carry that gun everyday". Cheating today though, happen to be carrying a VERY chopped Harrington & Richardson .32 hammerless. Cosmetically challenged but 100% functional with bright bore. Don't judge.

would love to see some pictures of your shorties! I have a DA that i am trying to get working again, and a single action that is a shooter, but not good enough to carry. I do have a dandy little .32 Hopkins & Allen breaktop, the nickle is still real nice on it,that has accounted for a snake fatality.

Can do. The first pic is a few of my .32's, including original bicycle guns by Iver Johnson, Harrington & Richardson, and a Hopkins & Allen Safety Police. The other two are chopped guns, an Iver Johnson 1st Model Safety Hammerless and another H & R. The second pic is a 2nd and 4th Models Safety Hammerless .38's, one chopped, one original. Incidentally, I shoot all of the above. Forgive my poor photography skills by the way.

A surprising number of people carry old S&W top breaks for CCW purposes. I wish they made a current one that takes the .38 S&W cartridge.

Looking forward to that. I too am a big fan of the break tops, mostly the shorties but here is a Smith .32 I couldn't pass up.

yes sir, it is Pyrodex P, 3FG black powder substitute. I ran out of Swiss bp, and this meters a little better than my home made bp, unless i run it through more screens.

I hate to see original S&Ws chopped up, but cannot resist those altered snub-nosed revolvers when I find them. Accumulated 32 & 38 Safeties & Double Actions and they all are flawless shooters. A few quick shots of short barreled S&Ws. Only two of these are original and the 6" 32 DA is there for size perspective.
