going to start loading for 38 super. any good load info greatly appreciated. i have lots of powder to choose from. thinking about power pistol w/115 or 124 speer gd. thanks.

What will you be shooting with your 38 Super ?
For 2700 matches I am happy with 4.5 grains Bullseye and a 121 grains cast bullet. I am shooting it from a Colt 1911 with a Kart barrel .

looking for a good self defense load. reliability first, accuracy & terminal performance. thanks.

Groo here
My smith is having good luck with AA9 in 38 super.. AA-7 also...

My current favorite with the 38 super is SR4756. You will have to work up your own loads becasue there is not a lot of data for SR4756 but it works well for me. Unique works well with 145 lasercasts and I have had good luck with Blue Dot and 145's also.

I run 124gr Rem HPs and XTPs over 6.5gr of Power Pistol, Max is 7.2.... Be sure to work up to max, especially if your using an unsupported barrel.....

I highly recommend 9.0 grs. of Blue Dot behind 124 gr. Remington Golden Sabre. Very accurate and 1300 f.p.s.

I never tried for max velocity from the Super, 1,250 fps with a 124/130 jacketed or plated bullet seemed like a good solid load without too much fire or fury.
SR 7625 was my favorite powder for the Super, and HS-6 worked well also. Both gave moderate recoil, low muzzle blast (for the Super) and no noticeable flash.

Of the two, I would prefer the 124-gr bullets. My mainstay powder for all the high-pressure auto pistol cartridges is HS-6. Old, but effective. :)

38 super
175 power factor for IPDA load AA 5 W/160 Moly coated bullet snappy
135 power factror for steel & ICROE T.G. with 135 gain moly coated bullet shoot light

Out of my Kimber Pro carry HD I use 9.0 grs of AA#7 with a Zero 125Gr JHP
very accurate load. Power Pistol is good also with a bit more flash/muzzle blast
