Weigh the can, weigh one bullet, convert to same units of weight [grains is easy], divide.

If you want to get more precise, subtract the weight of the empty can.

Is there a prize for guessing the correct number?

Cordially, Jack

There ought to be enough to provide you with a lot of fun shooting. Use a light charge of Bullseye, HP38 aka 231, Titegroup, & possibly others, & have a ball. Congratulations.

Loaded rounds or just the bullets? If it's just the bullets that has to be a pretty heavy bucket. According to wikianswers 1 gallon of lead weighs 95 lbs., so about 4400 bullets per gallon.

IF it's loaded rounds, I'll guess 1440 rounds in a gallon.

Retired ,where are you ,?? Do you need some help loading them?
Shooting them??
My model 14-3 p.p.c. gun is available any time.

We loves us some wadcutters.

231 cu. in. to the gallon, and 50 empty .38 special cases take up about 11-12 cu. in. So 2000-2100 rounds, I'd say. (Weight doesn't figure into the calculation of volume, and a wadcutter round takes up no more volume than an empty case.)

This could be maybe 10-15 % low, because in a larger container the cylindrical volumes would have a better chance to settle and get into the densest packed position. Empties in a small cardboard box can't do that as well.

If my memory serves me right, I used to buy reloads at 1000 at a time and two of those boxes would fit in a one gallon can plus some.
