I been hankering for a new gun. I was figuring on something in a .380, either a 380 EZ or Walther PK380. I was planning on carrying the EZ once in a while and planning ahead for when arthritis eventually overtakes me.
But, before I jumped, I figured I do a bit of a compare and contrast between the EZ and Beretta (can't find any reasonably priced PKs around so that's out).
And lo and behold, I ain't gaining anything size-wise with the EZ. The specs are virtually identical in terms of length, barrel length, height, and width. The EZ is SA only and the Beretta is DA/SA which is okay by me.
So there I was, ready to show up tomorrow am at my LGS, cash in hand, and plunk it down. But not now. Think I'll just clean the Beretta and call it a night.
Same thing happened when I was considering a new .40. Figured on something in striker-fired, an Apex, or a S&W M&P .40 Compact. Then I went to the specs to compare with my Smith 4013TSW and a PX4 compact my middle guy liberated from the safe.
Same deal. Both the M&P and Apex Centurion spec out to the 4013; I'm perfectly comfortable with DA/SA; and if I ever get the PX4 back it's just about the same size.
Hard to justify getting another carry-size gun the same size as my other carry-size guns.
And I'm kinda over-subscribed on 9s and .45s. 'Bout the only thing missing in the safe is a 1911 (as my oldest boy liberated that) and with a 745 I figure I got the SA .45 covered anyway.
I ain't complaining. And normally I'd buy some ammo with the $$$, but I hate to give in to the gougers...so I'm holding off on that as well. (I guess I'll keep looking for a .380 or .45 conversion kit for a Sig 250. And if arthritis does strike, I'll just revert back to wheel guns.)
