Found this 386 with a 6 inch barrel at Cabelas. It came with the scope. It's the scandium metal. I believe it is called the hunter model but can't find a lot of info on it. Sure is fun to shoot.

Can y'all tell me what frame it has please.

Now I'm curious if a magnet will stick to the side of the barrel shroud because of its attraction to the barrel. most of the stainless steels used in firearms are magnetic.

The model looked so logical for hunting that I was disappointed that it did not catch on.

The frame and shroud are scandium alloy, the cylinder is stainless and I think the barrel is stainless also. The internals are standard S&W steel. My magnetic pickup tool is attracted to the barrel on the side flats and I can feel some pull at the sideplate from the trigger & hammer but the magnet only sticks to the cylinder.

At 28 ounces and with a hand filling grip, recoil is brisk but manageable.

We would never see pictures to prove it.

Just for the record, I've actually posted a photo here in the last year! And back maybe 10 years ago, I posted them all the time. :) I even conned Frakes (GF) into posting a picture of my Randall folder. That was to shame Shouldazagged into coming to the gun show. It didn't work.

I picked mine up last year from a guy who needed the cash. Price seemed fair but doing research on a fair market price was a bear. This model really seems like it did not have very high production numbers. Nobody seems to know and S&W is about as much help as a fart in church on that kind of info.

I'll play. Here's mine. It's a fine shooter and it manages recoil well. I recommend getting one if you happen to come across a used one for sale.
