39-2 jamming!

Hey guys, I found and purchased a 39-2. Came with original box and paperwork. Looks like it has not been shot to much. I love the gun and have been watching for one so when I saw it at my LGS I picked it up immediately. So I thought due to the age I would replace/change the recoil spring, hammer spring, and I also replaced the magazine spring. All original type springs except for the Wolf magazine springs at 5% more power. I took it out to the range and it is jamming approx. every 3 shots. It will partially extract the empty shell and try to feed the next cartridge and is jamming in that position. It did seem to get better towards the end of my 100 box of Winchester FMJ 115gr. target rounds. The box says approx. 1123fps for those. I checked with a gun smith and he said that I need to break in the new springs with a couple of hundred rounds. Any input/feed back will be appreciated. Do 39-2's usually run good and not jam? Thank you in advance!
I bought a new 39-2 back in 1975. I couldn't run a full mag without a jam. Tried everything. Dealer could not get it fixed. Springs, even tried wet sanding the ramp. Finally ended up selling it.

Glad it sounds like it is up and running. I was going to recommend trying a different load. Something hotter or 124 grains...

I bought a Wolf spring kit for my Carbine years ago and what I received was a bag of springs that were similar but not exactly correct. They were just industrial springs that would fit but were not original factory GI springs. I would imagine that many would work OK, some didn't. I used the recoil spring that probably was either an original part or a good copy, the rest of the dozen or so other springs were left in the bag. Advertising makes it happen.... I also bought a M98 spring that did absolutely nothing for the rifle.

Yeah, years ago I bought a magazine that had its primary article, “Why a $49 Raven .25ACP is Better Than a $220 S&W 9mm.” Smith finally fixed the problem and they had a recall shortly after the magazine appeared. I still have it around here somewhere.

If you hear the term “jammomatic,” it was probably used in reference to these guns. I was soooooo looking forward to buying a 59, but wouldn't touch it after hearing nothing but horror stories! Bought a Beretta 92 European model instead.

I was going to suggest the mag spring. It's all about timing. That 5% "extra power" spring is just not needed. When the gun is fired, that mag spring is pushing so hard on the round that the slide can't catch up, and/or the next round is up passed the feed ramp. This causes the round to get jammed into the upper part of the chamber.

Anyway, I'm glad you figured it out and the gun is running as it should.
