S&W 39 (no dash) extractor

Just off the phone with Jack First and have a Model 39 (no dash) extractor on the way!!

Cost is $70.00 and shipping is $11.00. Going out today and should have it next week.

They have them in stock.

Hope this helps!

S&W 39 (no dash) extractor

Finally, the extractor made its way through the postal system from Jack First....It took a while...

A nicely machined extractor arrived and it has struck me I should have also got the spring and pin as well...Someday....

My main reason for ordering the extractor was to have one on hand. Ya never know when things dry up and you wished you had....

The extractor comes unblued. Thinking it might be a good idea to find the best way to get a matching, as close as is possible, blue job for it...

Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!

ISP Pistols

Long thread, and did not read all the Post's completely. I have a friend (Ya, just one). At a gun show about two years ago he was a couple of steps ahead of me. He found a Model 52 for sale, he bought it. I came with a couple of magazines. When he got home he realized that one of the mags would not fit. He went back the next day to see what the deal was. When he got there the seller apologized for the mistake. He then asked if he wanted some more pieces that would fit his pistol and some paperwork. The seller had a complete Model 39 slide and barrel assembly for his 52. The story is that the pistol belonged to a ISP Patrolman that shot on their team. The team armorer had acquired the pistols and the spare uppers all from S&W. He fitted the uppers to the 52 frames. The upper does not seem to shoot near as well as his straight up Model 39's.

Wow, interesting information.
I'd never considered mixing the two or if it were even possible.
Many years back I had sweet Model 52...that I never should have sold :-/
Any idea what modifications were necessary to make that combo work?
Thanks!

I would imagine there is a modification to the 39 slide & barrel to get it to work. There is a discussion elsewhere on the forum about this. Most thought it was to difficult to accomplish. If I can get the gun in this discussion I will get pictures of it and post them.

That would be great!

I'd wondered when I had the 52 whether the frame was similar to a steel 39 frame. But I didn't have a 39 then, so never thought too much about it.

Thanks for your reply! :-)

I know this Thread has some age on it, But I will give it a try.
I have an ISP marked 39, Sn. 88702. No big deal but it appears someone fitted an early 39-2 slide to it. Both frame and slide show the same amount of wear. Was this a common cure during its period of service or common after the gun left the control of ISP? I do know that trans 39-2s were being shipped in early 1970.

Usually if someone's gun went down from some reason there were just issued a new gun unless it was some minor repair. Nothing is impossible that one of the main range guys swapped out the slide but not likely. If the top end was that bad the Troop would have been issued a new/different gun and their old 39 would have been stored.
If your 39 has a 39-2 slide the most likely cause would be done by someone after it was sold and released to the public. The 39/39-2 were replaced by the 439 in 1981 so over the last 43 years there's no telling what someone might have done to it.
